In October of 2012 at the young age of 21, Andrew Weishar lost his three year battle to cancer. Andrew graduated from Brother Rice High School in 2009, and went on to play football at Illinois Wesleyan University, where his career was cut short after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, a cancer of the colon or rectum, located at the digestive tract’s lower end. While Andrew fought the disease, his attitude on life and care for everyone else around him moved thousands. In that three year fight, the entire South Side community and beyond rallied around Andrew and the entire Weishar family. Despite the pain and suffering he endured, Andrew asked nothing of any of his family or friends. However, before he passed he had one request. He asked the Weishar family and his community to “Pay Forward” the kindness and generosity shown to him and his entire family during his battle with cancer. To fulfill his one and only wish, The Andrew Weishar Foundation was created to aid families stricken with cancer. So far, the foundation has helped over 30 families in less than 3 years.

To raise funds to support these families, the AWF created perhaps the most unique annual event on the South Side of Chicago. WeishFest (pronounced “Wish” Fest) is an all-day music festival that transforms the Standard Bank baseball stadium in Crestwood into an incredible music festival venue. From getting the best of musical performances and celebrity red carpet appearances, to fireworks and special tributes for families battling cancer; WeishFest has it all.

This year’s music festival is right around the corner, July 18th! WeishFest 2015 will feature rock legend Eddie Money, the multi-platinum artist WARRANT, Chicago 6 (ft. ’85 Super Bowl Bears Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson, and Steve McMichael), and 5 regional cover bands. Also new to WeishFest 2015 is the celebrity red carpet, where our Host Dennis McKinnon (Chicago Bears WR #85), will be recruiting more Chicago legends and other celebrities/public figures to join the cause. Nic Weishar and his Notre Dame Football teammates will also be making an appearance and be holding a signing session for their South Side Irish fans.

If you are able to join us on the 18th, you will experience the impact of the WeishFest atmosphere- one unlike any other festival event, all sparked by the spirit of Paying it Forward. Come see for yourself what WeishFest is all about!
