There are some great markets in Chicago.  Fun finds and great food are a great way to have a Sunday Funday.  But there’s a new market in town, and it all goes down after dark.

Fête will be a mix of food, fashion and home goods.  In case you didn’t take French in high school, ‘fête’ means party en Français. How appropriate for this nighttime market.  It’s not just a market: it is a party!  From 6-10 on December 6th, Room 1520 at 1520 W. Fulton St. will be full with vendors from the likes of Hot Chocolate, Publican Quality Meats, Dinner Party and Arch Apothecary.

I talked to one of the creators of this fête, Jessica Hermon.  “Inherently when you do something at night you have a different feeling,” she said. They’re creating a party vibe where you can hang out and Her co-founders Emily Fiffer and Heather Sperling saw nighttime markets going on all over the world, and thought Chicago could use an event like this.

The main reason why she wanted to create this market is because of the holidays.  It’s a party.  It’s seasonal.  And it’s a great place to get gifts. “My idea was having smaller accessories,” she said. “No clothes because it would be hard to try them on.”  Herman said she wanted smaller gifts to get something for everyone on your list, and maybe something for yourself.  So you can get something for your friend at City Lit Books, and get dishes for your holiday party at Dinner Party.

Then there’s the food.  Thanks to the founder’s large rolodex (Sperling works at the Tasting Table, Herman was at Time Out Chicago and Fiffer is at Daily Candy) they brought the balance between buzz and unbelievable chefs.  When Jessica told me about how her partners decided who to bring, she said “what they’ve kept in mind is what inspires them.”  They obviously have good taste because James Beard winner Mindy Segal will be serve hot chocolate (naturally), Jared Van Camp will offer some charcuterie and Mark Steuer will have pickles from Carriage House.

Tickets are $5 and a portion of the price goes towards Fresh Moves, which helps deliver fresh produce in “food desert.” Helping out my Christmas gift list and helping out people in need? Who else wants to Fête with them?
