Misericordia Artist In All

Hi readers! Mary Frances Bragiel from WLS-AM 890 here! The Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago has competition. Think modern European, think contemporary, think Misericordia. A home in Chicago that supports more than six hundred children and adults with developmental disabilities. Hundreds of Misericordia residents spend their time during the year creating works of art on canvasses, ceramics, wood, glass and jewelry, never allowing their disability to get in the way of their creativity. As a result the 15th annual “Artist In All” event will take place Wednesday, May 23rd in the Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Guests of the event get the opportunity to bid on hundreds of pieces of original works created by the residents, in conjunction with the assistance of the dedicated staff. One item up for grabs this year is a reproduction of The Picasso, which currently sits in Daley Plaza . While the sculpture on display is brown, the painting has been done in rich, vibrant colors by a number of Misericordia residents.  Entitled “Picasso Meets Pollock” the artists began their search for an inspiring signature piece and two artists came to mind, namely Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock.

Lovie and MaryAnne Smith are once again honorary chairs for Artist In All.  The money raised helps support Misericordia which sits on a 31 acre campus in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
