October 6th will see the 85th annual fashion show presented by the Women’s Board of Rush University, but even though the event has been going on for 8 decades, it definitely shows no signs of old age. In fact, this year’s show “LAYERS” presents a decidedly modern take on fashion. A “who’s who” of volunteer models will walk down the runway wearing designs from some of the best names in fashion including: Frances Heffernan, The Lake Forest Shop, Loro Piana, Luca Luca, Neapolitan, p.45, Penny’s From Heaven, Ralph Lauren, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tory Burch and Valentino.

Make way for the “sport of kings” this weekend. Beach chairs, towels, and volleyballs will be replaced with horses when the first Chicago Beach Polo World Cup makes its way to North Avenue Beach on October 1st & 2nd. Athletes from around the world will be in the Windy City looking for a win. “The two-day international polo tournament will host a field of eight teams. Four teams will compete in World Cup play while four women’s teams will compete for the North Beach Women’s Polo Cup.”

Everyone from Chicago knows the story: In October of 1871, a huge fire blazed through the city of Chicago, destroying everything in its path. It was probably caused by infamous O’Leary cow. But whatever the reason, from out of the ashes, Chicago arose a new, bigger and better than ever. Now, coinciding with the 140th anniversary of the Chicago Fire, the Lookingglass Theatre is inviting Chicagoans to take a deeper look inside this infamous event with the play The Great Fire.
