Keri Johnsrud and Her Quartet Return to Perform at the Jazz Showcase

Hey there, Chicago-land! This is your friendly local jazz vocalist, composer, music instructor, first-time blog writer and storm-chaser wannabe, Keri Johnsrud. Since arriving in Chicago in 1999, from the vast cornfields of Iowa, I’ve been fortunate to perform in some of the most historic venues in the city (and country, for that matter), with the Jazz Showcase being one of the oldest. With that said, I would love to invite you to join me and my band on Wednesday, March 16th, for our performance at this celebrated jazz club.

Taste of River North Offers Best of Hood’, July 19-21

For those who didn’t quite get their fill at Taste of Chicago, I’m urging you to check out this weekend’s classed-up Taste of River North. This annual foodie fest gives discerning palates and weary art shoppers a gratifying taste of the best of everything River North has to offer in a beautiful riverfront green park setting. Hosted by River North Residents Association and presented by East Bank Club, ToRN reflects the characteristics of its neighborhood: spectacular food, world-class art and top-notch entertainment.

The Art Institute of Chicago Welcome’s You To: Night Heist

With so many fun events going on in our busy city it can be difficult to decide what to do. If you are bombarded by events and feel your friends pulling you in different directions, think no more! What if I told you, that you could experience a concert, art exhibits, and philanthropy all in one place? You are invited to The Evening Associates and The Art Institute of Chicago’s third annual fundraising celebration—Night Heist.

The Battle is Back: Five Chefs, Five Neighborhoods, Five Fares – and One, Locally Brewed Beer

It’s no secret that Chicago is home to some of the best restaurants in the country – scratch that, some of the best restaurants in the world. Yeah, I said it. With hot spots like Alinea, Next, Moto, and Tru – to name just a few, we give New York, San Fran, Paris, and Spain a run for their money. As a result, food fests, tastings, pairings, and other interactive culinary events regularly pop-up in neighborhoods around the city. A true food enthusiast, I try not to simply sample the most sought-out displays of deliciousness. I’ve learned with age (yes, in all of 26 years that I’ve lived) that some of the best bites are found at local dives, down random alleys, and in ethnic neighborhoods housing chefs with a real understanding of the food that they cook.

Top Oktoberfest Celebrations in Chicago

We may just be a week into September, but it’s time to start talking about Oktober. Because Chicago has tons of events that pay homage to the German festival Oktoberfest. The keg may not get tapped in Munich until the 22nd, but we in Chicago get to start off the celebrating as early as next week! Here’s a list of a couple events:
