Cristobal Martinez is a Senior Program Associate with Urban Initiatives. Coach Cris implements the Work to Play Program, which encourages kids to live active and healthy lives through the sport of soccer across 5 Chicago Public Schools. They’d like to tell you about a great event that’s right around the corner:

Are you ready for a night of philanthropy, dancing, cocktails, delicious appetizers and an exquisite silent auction? Each year since its inception, the wildly popular Soccer Ball has sold out. This year, the event is expected to sell out, with over 750 estimated guests in attendance. The Soccer Ball is an integral part of Urban Initiatives’ funding, as the event raises significant funds, which sustain current health and educational programming. Additionally, the event provides the funding necessary for program expansion into additional schools and neighborhoods. Join Urban Initiatives at its 7th annual Soccer Ball at River East Art Center, located at 435 E. Illinois St. – 7:00pm

Over the course of the last 6 years The Soccer Ball has raised over a million dollars, allowing the Urban Initiatives program to expand from 4 to 22 schools, directly benefiting thousands of children. At this year’s Soccer Ball, the Chicago Cubs Charities will be the recipient of the Soccer Ball Award, which recognizes individuals and organizations for their exceptional community support efforts. Additionally, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Fire Captain Logan Pause are serving as the Honorary Event Chair. Past recipients of the program’s prestigious award have included Arne Duncan, United States Secretary of Education, The Springboard Foundation and Nike.

Your participation will allow at-risk youth all over Chicago to take part in an innovative program that utilizes soccer as a vehicle to motivate children to increase their potential in areas of academic engagement, social interaction, healthy lifestyle choice, and self-sufficiency. Do not miss your chance to enjoy a wonderful evening and support a great cause. Tickets are now available for $125 here. Come out and PLAY!
