Each year, Lookingglass Theatre’s Junior Board hosts one of Chicago’s most unique fundraisers – The Madhatter’s Ball. If you’ve never heard of The Madhatter’s Ball, it is a high-energy, themed celebration that brings together Chicago’s young professionals all for a great cause!

CNN’s original series Chicagoland has showcased some of the many trials and triumphs of the Windy City. From the art and diversity to sports and politics, we’ve gotten a great glimpse of what it’s like to be a Chicagoan. What I wish Chicagoland offered viewers were more of the organizations and communities of people helping the fight.

Each year, for one exciting evening, the magic of Mardi Gras travels north to Chicago for the Blackboard Affair Masquerade Ball. This event benefits Working in the Schools (WITS), a local organization that promotes literacy and a love of learning in Chicago Public School elementary students through a volunteer-powered, outcomes-based portfolio of programs.

As a self-proclaimed foodie, any event that revolves around the construction or consumption of food will draw my attention, which is why Cooking Up Change immediately caught my eye! At this event, high school culinary students compete to create both nutritious and delicious school lunches for under $1!
